Climate‑driven cyclones and monsoon rains have unleashed one of the deadliest weather patterns in years across South and Southeast Asia, killing more than 1,600 people and displacing hundreds of thousands since mid‑November.

Catastrophic flooding and landslides have struck Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Viet Nam, affecting millions. UN teams are supporting government‑led relief efforts with food, health, water and sanitation aid, medical deployments and early recovery assessments.

“We continue to closely monitor the situation and remain in close contact with national authorities,” UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Thursday in New York. “The UN stands ready to support any ongoing efforts.”
