A low‑pressure system is affecting Cyprus on Friday, with dust expected to linger in the atmosphere until the evening, the Meteorological Department said.
Cloudy conditions will bring rain and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day. Hail is possible in storm‑affected areas, and brief periods of heavy or prolonged rainfall are expected. Snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks of the Troodos range later in the afternoon.
Winds will blow from the south to southwest at moderate to strong force 4 to 5, and at times very strong force 6. Seas will be rough, and locally very rough on windward coasts. Temperatures will reach around 19°C inland and on the coasts, and 8°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight will remain mostly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Snow or sleet may again occur on the highest peaks. Winds will shift southwesterly to westerly, remaining strong inland and in the mountains, and very strong — occasionally near gale force — along the coasts.
Seas will be very rough. Temperatures will fall to 8°C inland, 12°C on the coasts and 4°C in the higher mountains.
On Saturday, conditions will be partly cloudy with isolated showers or storms early in the day, easing as the day progresses.
Sunday and Monday are expected to be mostly clear, though periods of increased cloud cover are likely. Temperatures will gradually rise to above seasonal averages.
