The Meteorology Department has issued a yellow warning for extremely low temperatures in Cyprus.

This warning will be in effect from tomorrow night until Sunday morning. During this period, the minimum temperature in the highest mountains is expected to drop to minus 9 degrees Celsius.

Cyprus is currently under the influence of the barometric low “Coral,” an Arctic blast bringing unusually cold weather across southeastern Europe.

“Coral” has already caused significant temperature drops and snowfall in Romania and Bulgaria as it moves southward towards the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East.

In Cyprus, temperatures are expected to plummet by 8 to 12 degrees Celsius by the end of the week, with the possibility of snow showers over the highest mountains.

Meteorological officer Andreas Chrysanthou stated on CyBC that temperatures today and in the coming days will fluctuate well below the seasonal average. Starting tomorrow, a further drop in temperature is expected, lasting until Monday.

A yellow warning is issued when the weather is likely to cause some low-level impacts, including travel disruptions in a few places. While many people may be able to continue with their daily routines, some will be directly affected. The warning serves as an alert to stay updated and take precautions, especially when planning to travel.
