FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE— Twenty-five passengers were hospitalized Wednesday evening after a Delta Air Lines flight encountered severe turbulence and was diverted to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, officials said.
The Airbus A330-900 was traveling from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam with 275 passengers and 13 crew members on board when the turbulence struck mid-flight.
The aircraft landed safely just before 8 p.m. local time.
“Significant turbulence caused the flight to be diverted,” a Delta spokesperson said.
Medical personnel met the plane upon arrival, and 25 individuals were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
