A 29‑year‑old man was arrested in the Nicosia district after refusing a roadside drug test, fleeing police and discarding packets later found to contain cocaine, authorities said.
Traffic officers stopped the man around 12:20 p.m. During the check, he allegedly refused a narcotest. A small bag with about two grams of cannabis was found in the vehicle’s glove compartment.
When officers attempted to arrest him, the man pushed two traffic policemen and ran. Police fired warning shots into the air during the pursuit. Items he threw away were recovered and identified as four packets of cocaine with a total gross weight of 30 grams.
A subsequent search of his vehicle by drug‑squad officers uncovered five mobile phones, five packets of cannabis weighing 30 grams in total and €4,770 in cash.
The suspect is expected to appear before Nicosia District Court for a remand order. The drug squad’s Nicosia unit is continuing the investigation.
