36-Year-Old Arrested in Larnaca on Motorcycle Theft, Traffic Charges After Crash and Foot Chase

A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged Sunday with stealing a motorcycle and committing multiple traffic offenses following a police chase in Larnaca.

According to police, a Traffic Department officer signaled for a motorcyclist to stop for a routine check shortly after noon on the previous day along Artemidos Avenue in Larnaca. The rider failed to stop and instead accelerated, driving recklessly and dangerously through the city’s road network before crashing into a railing. The motorcycle was disabled in the collision, and the rider fled on foot.

A Traffic Department officer pursued and caught the man, arresting him on the spot for offenses committed in his presence. A records check identified him as a 36-year-old who did not hold a driver’s license. He also refused to take a drug test, police said.

A subsequent investigation determined the motorcycle had been stolen in Larnaca the previous Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026.

The man was taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where doctors found he had suffered fractures to his legs.

He was later charged in writing with motorcycle theft and several traffic offenses and was released, with an order to appear in court at a later date.

The Kiti Police Station and the Larnaca Minor Offenses Department are continuing the investigation.
