FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — A 4-year-old boy remains intubated at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia after being found unconscious at the bottom of a hotel swimming pool in Paphos, authorities said Thursday.
The child, a foreign national, was discovered around 2 p.m. by a hotel guest who alerted staff. Preliminary investigations indicate the boy had been playing in the shallow end of the pool under the supervision of his mother.
At one point, she turned her attention to a younger sibling, and the boy reportedly moved unnoticed into deeper water.
A lifeguard was present at the pool at the time of the incident.
The family had just arrived in Cyprus from Israel for vacation.
