FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Central Prison had the highest occupancy rate among European Union countries in 2023, according to data from the EU Statistical Institute Eurostat,.
The prison in Cyprus recorded an occupancy rate of 226.2 percent, significantly surpassing France, which had the second-highest rate at 122.9 percent.
The report also noted that the number of inmates in the Central Prison reached 959 in 2023, the highest figure recorded since 2013.
