Police carried out targeted overnight operations across Cyprus, arresting six people for offences including drunk driving, speeding, assault causing actual bodily harm and other violations, authorities said Wednesday.
Officers stopped 529 vehicles and checked 789 drivers and passengers. They also inspected 28 premises, issuing one citation.
Traffic enforcement produced 291 violations, including 109 for speeding. One driver was caught travelling at 160 km/h in a 50 km/h zone; he was arrested and is expected to appear before Nicosia District Court on Wednesday. One driver tested positive for drugs and another for alcohol. Police also impounded 11 vehicles.
Authorities said the coordinated operations — aimed at crime prevention and maintaining public order — will continue daily with reinforced patrols and targeted checks.
