FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – TikTok is set to establish a new data center in Kouvola, southeastern Finland, in a move expected to provide significant economic and strategic benefits both locally and nationally.
In a statement Wednesday, the City of Kouvola called the facility a “major investment” that will boost economic activity across the region. The 34,000-square-meter facility is currently under construction, with the first phase expected to take around one and a half years to complete.
“This investment strengthens Kouvola’s position as an emerging regional hub,” Mayor Marita Toikka said. “We are especially pleased with the jobs created and the long-term economic impact.”
The project is expected to create hundreds of jobs during construction, with an estimated 800,000 euros in annual municipal tax revenue once operational. The facility will also contribute to sustainable development by integrating waste heat into the district heating network.
Located in the Koria village of Kouvola, the data center is being developed by Finnish real estate investment firm HyperCo, with a total investment of 1 billion euros. TikTok confirmed the project in a statement Tuesday.
