Cyprus president begins Baltic tour ahead of EU Council presidency

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides is visiting the Baltic states this week as part of preparations for Cyprus’ upcoming presidency of the European Union Council in the first half of 2026.

Christodoulides will arrive in Riga, Latvia, on Wednesday evening and receive an official welcome Thursday morning. He is scheduled to meet privately with Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, followed by broader discussions between delegations from both countries.

Later Thursday, he will meet with Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa before departing for Lithuania in the evening.

On Friday, Christodoulides will hold talks with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, followed by diplomatic meetings. In the afternoon, he will travel to Tallinn, Estonia, for discussions with Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.

During his visits to Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, Christodoulides will address bilateral relations, developments in the Middle East and Ukraine, Cyprus’ priorities for its EU presidency, and ongoing issues related to the Cyprus dispute.
