The Forestry Department has issued a warning that Sunday, July 27th, 2025, will be a “Red Alert” day due to the high risk of forest fires.
Dry conditions have raised serious concerns about the possibility of fire outbreaks and rapid spread.
Starting a wildfire is a criminal offense, carrying strict penalties under Cyprus’s Forest Law and the Law for the Prevention and Suppression of Fires in the Countryside.
The public is urged to be especially cautious during outdoor activities and avoid anything that could trigger a blaze — even a spark from a cigarette or a careless barbecue could prove disastrous.
If anyone sees smoke or fire, they should immediately call 1407 (Forestry Department) or 112 (Fire Service). Fast reporting could prevent major damage.
