After years of setbacks, Cyprus is finally taking steps to roll out the much-needed emergency alert system, known as 112, and its mass notification platform for citizens in times of crisis — but the wait isn’t quite over.
Deputy Minister for Innovation and Digital Policy, Nikodimos Damianou, confirmed in a televised interview that chronic state inefficiencies have stalled the full implementation of the system, which is mandated by European directive.
Speaking on CyprusA Radio, Mr Damianou stressed that the government has identified the weaknesses and is working toward resolving them with the “best possible approach.”
