FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Authorities are moving forward with damage assessments in areas impacted by recent wildfires, Commissioner for Mountain Development Charalambos Christofinas has said.

According to Cyprus Radio, he said a final evaluation, including a restoration timeline, is expected by Thursday.

Christofinas noted that issues involving the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) are progressing, while water supply concerns have been fully resolved.

On Tuesday, compensation payments were distributed to farmers for a full year of lost income.

Christofinas added that the Department of Agriculture continues its surveys to include any additional individuals whose losses may not have been initially reported.

Meanwhile, a team of American experts is scheduled to visit affected communities and conduct on-site assessments, Christofinas said.

Meanwhile, President Nikos Christodoulides expressed satisfaction with the government’s execution of promised support measures for those affected by the devastating wildfires in the Limassol district.

Speaking to members of the Cabinet at the start of a meeting on Wednesday, Christodoulides emphasized the significance of approving and distributing one-time compensation payments to impacted citizens.
