FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE The European Union has brought two environmental cases against Cyprus before its top court, citing delays and legal violations, the country’s Audit Office said Wednesday.
The watchdog flagged “serious irregularities” in environmental oversight, accusing authorities of negligence and failing to enforce EU laws effectively.
The newspaper Fileleftheros reported that the Ministry of Agriculture faced “chronic inaction,” raising the risk of stiff financial penalties from Brussels.
A separate daily, Haravgi, said the Audit Office found “significant gaps and negligence” within the ministry and warned of compliance issues with EU environmental directives.
Those issues could trigger sanctions, the paper said.
