FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A nationwide strike by ground handling staff at Azul Handling, part of the Ryanair group, is set to disrupt operations at major Spanish airports starting Aug. 15, the UGT trade union announced.

The strike will affect airports in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Malaga, Alicante, Ibiza, Mallorca, Girona, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Santiago de Compostela.

It will take place in three daily time slots — 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., and 9 p.m. to midnight — every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Dec. 31, 2025.

Azul Handling provides ground services to Ryanair group airlines, including baggage handling.

Passengers are advised to expect delays and cancellations throughout the strike period.

The union cited ongoing labor rights violations and unstable working conditions as reasons for the action.
