Families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza are calling for a nationwide strike on Sunday, August 17, to protest the government’s decision to seize Gaza City.

The move, they say, endangers the lives of the remaining captives and deepens the humanitarian crisis.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, along with bereaved relatives, announced the strike outside military headquarters in Tel Aviv, urging businesses, unions, and citizens to halt activity under the slogan “Silence kills.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to occupy Gaza City has drawn widespread condemnation.

Hamas warned that any takeover would mean “sacrificing the hostages,” with roughly 20 believed to be alive.

Inside Israel, tens of thousands have rallied against the government, demanding a ceasefire and the safe return of hostages.

Protesters accuse Netanyahu of ignoring military advice and pursuing a reckless campaign that risks further bloodshed.

International leaders, including those from the UN, UK, Germany, and Australia, have condemned the plan, warning of catastrophic consequences and urging restraint.
