Police in northern Cyprus have launched an investigation after footage circulated on social media showing a man dragging a dog behind a moving tractor.
According to the Police Press Office, officers identified the tractor driver and issued a fixed fine totaling 7,680.30 Turkish lira for multiple offenses.
Authorities also notified the Veterinary Department for further action, citing animal cruelty under the ongoing investigation.
The incident comes amid growing concern over animal welfare in the region.
Earlier this year, at least 14 wild donkeys were found shot dead at close range in the Karpasia Peninsula, including a pregnant female that was killed while in labour.
The killings sparked national outrage, with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar condemning the act as “heinous” and calling for swift justice.
