FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus’ recent humanitarian aid shipment to Gaza was carried out despite Turkish efforts to block the initiative, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said.
In an interview, Kombos told Phileleftheros newspaper that Turkey routinely places obstacles in the way of Cyprus’ humanitarian actions, describing Ankara’s tactics as part of a broader strategic policy.
“The Turkish side is particularly inventive in creating barriers,” Kombos said. “This is a strategic choice by Turkey and should be understood by all.”
He said Cyprus faces a range of obstruction efforts, including diplomatic pressure on third countries and attempts to cast doubt on the feasibility of aid operations from Nicosia.
The shipment included 120 tons of humanitarian supplies intended for Palestinians in Gaza.
Kombos said Cyprus hopes to continue sending aid, depending on conditions on the ground.
