Cyprus has recorded more than 250 incidents of assault or resistance against police officers annually in recent years, according to official statistics cited by Fileleftheros newspaper.
In a report published this week, the paper said police data showed a consistent pattern of violence and defiance targeting law enforcement personnel.
During a five-day period at the end of last August alone, six separate attacks against officers were reported.
Based on figures provided by the police, Fileleftheros noted that 274 such incidents occurred in 2023, followed by 288 in 2024. As of July 31, 2025, authorities had already documented 147 cases.
