NICOSIA- Cyprus and Greece intend to move forward with plans for an electricity interconnection project linking the two countries, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said Thursday.
Speaking on a morning radio program, Kombos said public debate over the issue does not serve the interests of either nation.
He emphasized the need to intensify both technical and political dialogue and said he remains in regular contact with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis.
“The dialogue is not taking place in a vacuum,” Kombos said, adding that the project also involves a planned extension toward Israel.
The interconnection is part of a broader regional energy strategy aimed at improving grid stability and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Despite previous delays and disagreements, both governments have signaled their commitment to the initiative.
