NICOSIA — Political asylum applications across the European Union declined in the second quarter of 2025, but Cyprus remained among the top recipients, ranking third, according to data from Eurostat.
Cyprus recorded 24.3 asylum applications per 100,000 residents during the period.
Greece topped the list with 39.4 applications per 100,000, followed by Spain with 25.8.
The figures reflect continued migration pressures on southern EU member states, despite an overall decrease in applications across the bloc.
