Retail trade turnover in Cyprus rose sharply in October, with both value and volume indexes showing strong annual gains.
The Turnover Value Index of retail trade, excluding motor vehicles, increased 7.6 percent compared with October 2024, reaching 142.6 units. The Turnover Volume Index climbed 10.1 percent to 126.9 units.
Food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores posted the largest annual increases, with value up 12.9 percent and volume up 15.3 percent. Clothing and footwear also recorded strong growth, with value rising 15.3 percent and volume 24.4 percent.
Other household equipment, including furniture and electrical appliances, rose 11 percent in value and 12.8 percent in volume. Information and communication equipment gained 3.8 percent in value and 12.7 percent in volume.
Declines were noted in cultural and recreation goods, down 1.2 percent in value and 1.6 percent in volume, and in retail sales not in stores, which fell 10.7 percent in value and 7.5 percent in volume.
For the January–October period, retail trade turnover excluding motor vehicles rose 6.4 percent in value and 7.8 percent in volume compared with the same period in 2024.
