Egypt’s Holding Company for Silos and Storage has signed a cooperation agreement with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation to modernize the country’s wheat storage infrastructure and improve the efficiency of its national food supply chain.

The EU‑backed deal was attended by Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk.

It will fund the construction of five field silos, each with a capacity of 10,000 tons, in several governorates — one each in Dakahlia, Damietta and Beheira, and two in Sharqia.

The agreement also calls for upgrading the ministry’s digital system to allow real‑time tracking of national wheat stocks, improving data accuracy, monitoring efficiency and supporting strategic planning.

Officials said the projects aim to strengthen storage capacity, reduce post‑harvest losses and enhance government oversight of the supply chain.

“The agreement reflects Egypt’s clear vision to modernize its food storage and supply systems,” the ministry said in a statement, noting EU and Italian support for sustainable development and expanded partnerships in the sector.
