Jordan ranked fifth worldwide in average weekly working hours compared with productivity levels, according to a policy brief released by the Jordan Strategy Forum.

The report, based on International Labour Organization data, found that while Jordanian workers log long hours, output per hour remains relatively low.

Mining and quarrying topped productivity by sector at 46.1 dinars per hour, followed by agriculture at 37.8 dinars.

The forum said international comparisons show an inverse relationship between hours worked and productivity: longer hours often mean lower efficiency.

It urged companies to shift from time‑based attendance to performance‑based cultures, improve incentive systems, and invest in digital and managerial skills training.

Recommendations also included sector‑specific studies to identify structural and cultural factors behind weak productivity and to design targeted policies to raise efficiency.
