Hungary has established the National Artificial Intelligence Council, a new advisory body tasked with monitoring technological developments and regulatory practices and drafting policy proposals, officials said Monday.
Government Commissioner for AI Laszlo Palkovics, who chairs the council, said the body was created in line with European Union legislation on AI governance.
He described the move as part of Hungary’s early, proactive approach, adding that artificial intelligence was “too important to be represented only by authorities.”
The council includes representatives from academia, universities, regulators and economic organizations.
At its inaugural meeting, members discussed proposals such as creating a Hungary‑based cloud service for AI applications and integrating AI content into higher education.
Palkovics said the council would review issues arising in Hungary and provide guidance on AI‑related matters.
