Global crude steel production fell 4.6 percent in November to 140.1 million tons compared with the same month last year, while Turkey’s output rose 10 percent to 3.3 million tons, according to data released by the World Steel Association on Wednesday.

China, the world’s largest steel producer, saw its output drop 10.9 percent to 69.9 million tons. Japan’s production slipped 1.6 percent to 6.8 million tons, while U.S. output climbed 8.5 percent to 6.8 million tons.

Germany’s production fell 2.6 percent to 2.8 million tons, and South Korea’s declined 4.8 percent to 5 million tons.

Brazil’s output edged up 0.7 percent to 2.8 million tons, and Iran’s production was estimated to have risen 9.2 percent to 3.4 million tons.

From January to November, global crude steel production decreased 2 percent year‑on‑year to 1.662 billion tons. China’s output over the same period fell 4 percent to 891.7 million tons.

China’s Commerce Ministry announced on Dec. 12 that it plans to introduce a licensing system for steel exports starting in 2026, a move widely seen as a response to criticism — particularly in Europe — over cheap Chinese steel and excess capacity.

Turkey’s crude steel production in the first 11 months of the year rose 2 percent to 34.6 million tons.
