Cardiovascular diseases remain the primary cause of death in Cyprus, according to reports in Alithia and other newspapers.
Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides told a symposium that although such conditions once accounted for 40 percent of deaths, the figure has fallen to 24 percent.
Despite the decline, he said, they continue to rank as the top cause of mortality.
Charalambides said 80 percent of those who die from cardiovascular diseases are over the age of 65.
He added that lifestyle changes and preventive measures could further reduce deaths linked to these conditions.
