The Audit Office has opened an investigation into the legality of decisions and actions taken by the Paphos Municipality following complaints involving suspended mayor Phedon Phedonos.
CyBC reports that Giota Michail, spokesperson for the Auditor‑General’s Office, confirmed that the probe was requested both by the acting mayor and by other individuals.
Auditors are expected to examine a decade’s worth of decisions related to planning matters, contracts, public works, the management of Turkish Cypriot properties and the operation of the Marathounta landfill.
At the same time, former Auditor‑General Odysseas Michaelides said on social media that a lengthy letter containing financial and administrative findings had been forwarded to police in 2023, implying concerns about how the authorities handled the material.
