Cyprus’ police chief has ordered an investigation into how a 17‑year‑old detainee escaped from the Omorfita police station, and has begun procedures to suspend an officer who may face disciplinary action.
Police said Chief Themistos Arnaoutis reviewed an incident report and appointed an investigating officer to examine possible disciplinary offenses involving a member of the force.
At the same time, steps have been taken to place the officer on suspension pending the outcome of the inquiry.
The teenager, who had been held in connection with a theft case, escaped from the station late Thursday.
He surrendered at a Nicosia police station on Friday and was arrested.
