Police are warning that vehicles not approved for road use pose a heightened risk of serious or fatal crashes and are prohibited under Cypriot law.

Authorities said the legislation bans any mechanically or electrically powered vehicle that does not meet legal specifications from circulating on public roads.

The category includes certain electric bicycles that exceed permitted limits.

Under the law, only electric bicycles with a top speed of 25 km/h or a maximum power output of 0.25 kW may be used on public roads.

They do not require registration and are barred from motorways and high‑speed routes but may operate elsewhere under specific conditions.

Police said they conduct daily checks to identify non‑compliant vehicles, which are seized when found.
