Representatives from the Sovereign Base Areas Police and Administration met with Republic of Cyprus Minister of Justice, Costas Fitiris this week to discuss key issues affecting the whole island.
During the meeting in the Dhekelia area, Chief Constable Steve Jupp was joined by the SBA Administration’s Chief Officer, Fleur Thomas and other senior members of her team to address tackling organised crime, the crossing points and enhancing liaison between the Bases and the ROC.
Speaking during the meeting, which included visits to the crossing points, Chief Constable Jupp expressed his gratitude to the Justice Minister and said he hoped it would lead to even closer cooperation to benefit the whole of Cyprus.
He said: “The Minister’s visit here today demonstrates our shared commitment to doing everything we can to keep our citizens safe.”
SBBA Chief Officer, Fleur Thomas, said meeting with the Justice Minster also laid the foundations of a productive and positive relationship going forward.
“Having taken over the role of Justice Minister in December, it was really good to engage with Mr Fitiris for the first time,” she said.
“We are very grateful that he has been able to meet with us so early in his tenure and have such positive interaction. We look forward to continuing to build on that relationship in the future.”
