Police are searching for a gang of Georgians who used powerful magnets to open and rob luxury apartments in Limassol.
The gang managed to steal goods worth several thousand euros, local media reports.
“According to the examinations so far, it appears that this is a group consisting of 6-7 foreigners […] they came from abroad,” a police spokesman said.
The seven-member gang repeatedly targeted luxury apartments, neutralizing security measures with magnets.
Closed-circuit video revealed their actions, showing them leaving with a suitcase full of stolen goods from an apartment in Agios Athanasios.
Limassol police say that burglaries had been observed in the Germasogeia River and Agios Athanasios areas, with no signs of forced entry.
However, the burglars were pursued by police, resulting in the arrest of a 53-year-old man.
Two associates managed to escape and are being sought.
The arrested man is not cooperating with authorities and has been remanded in custody for eight days.
Efforts continue to identify the remaining gang members, who may have fled abroad or to the occupied territories.
