Tourist Arrivals in Cyprus Up 8.5% in January

Tourist arrivals to Cyprus rose 8.5% in January compared with the same month last year, reaching 121,625, according to figures cited by Alithia from the Statistical Service.

Polish visitors accounted for 18.6% of arrivals (22,575), followed by Israelis at 18.1%, Britons at 15.8% (21,981), Greeks at 9.6% (11,650) and Germans at 6.2% (7,504).

The data show that 60.7% of visitors came for holidays, 22.8% to visit friends or relatives and 16.2% for business.

Outbound travel by Cypriot residents also increased, rising 15% year‑on‑year to 170,045, up from 147,858 last January. Of those trips, 27.6% (46,970) were to Greece, 8.5% (14,389) to the United Kingdom and 5.8% (9,865) to Poland.

Cypriots travelled abroad mainly for holidays (82.2%), followed by business (16.3%), education (0.7%) and other purposes (0.7%).
