Cyprus Harmonised Consumer Price Index up 1.2% in January

Cyprus’ Harmonised Consumer Price Index rose 1.2 percent in January compared with the same month a year earlier, the Statistical Service has said.

The index fell 0.3 percent from December.

The agency said the biggest annual increases were recorded in recreation, sport and culture, restaurants and accommodation services, and education. Clothing and footwear posted the sharpest annual decline, dropping 6.2 percent.

Compared with December, clothing and footwear showed the largest monthly decrease, while food and non‑alcoholic beverages recorded the biggest rise.

By economic category, energy prices were down 6.5 percent from a year earlier, while services increased 4.3 percent. Non‑energy industrial goods fell both year‑on‑year and month‑to‑month.

The Statistical Service said the HICP basket was updated in January based on the 2023 Household Budget Survey. Prices are collected in the urban areas of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos, with weighting reflecting population shares.
