Israel has carried out a pre‑emptive strike against Iran, Defense Minister Israel Katz said Saturday, as explosions were reported in Tehran by Iranian media.
An Israeli Defense Ministry official said the operation was conducted in coordination with the United States and had been planned for months, with the date of the attack set weeks in advance.
Iranian outlets reported loud blasts across the capital and thick smoke rising from central districts.
Israel’s military announced a halt to educational activities and public gatherings and urged residents to work from home. Air‑raid sirens sounded in several parts of the country “to prepare the public for the possibility of missile launches toward Israel,” the army said.
Israel’s Civil Aviation Authority said the Transport Ministry has closed the country’s airspace to civilian flights and advised the public not to go to airports.
