Cyprus’ Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance has launched an information campaign aimed at improving compliance with rules governing driving and rest hours for professional drivers using tachographs.
The ministry said it places particular importance on enforcing legislation that protects working conditions and enhances road safety. Between 2023 and 2025, the Department of Labour Relations carried out more than 1,300 inspections on professional drivers, identifying violations related to driving hours, rest periods and breaks. Officials issued compliance recommendations or forwarded cases for criminal proceedings where necessary.
Authorities consider such violations serious, noting that fatigue increases the risk of road accidents and undermines drivers’ working conditions.
To address the issue, the Department of Labour Relations is implementing measures in cooperation with the Police, the Department of Road Transport and the Department of Electromechanical Services.
Planned actions include an information and awareness campaign for drivers, transport companies and the public, running from March 9 to 22, 2026, across radio, websites and social media. A related video has already been published online. Training sessions for drivers, transport company managers and representatives of employer and trade union organizations are also scheduled.
