Heavy rainfall in recent days has made March one of the most beneficial months for Cyprus’ water reserves in a decade, with total inflows into the island’s dams reaching 12.3 million cubic meters, officials said Monday.
The Water Development Department said the Xyliatos dam, which has a capacity of 1.4 million cubic meters, overflowed.
Significant inflow was also recorded at the Asprokremmos dam, which received 3.2 million cubic meters of water in just three days.
Authorities described the inflows as substantial and stressed the importance of safeguarding water reserves for at least the next two years.
This March ranks among the most productive in terms of water accumulation in the past ten years, the department said, adding that inflows are expected to continue through the end of April.
