The government will step in with measures to ease the impact of high fuel prices when needed, Finance Minister Makis Keravnos has said, rejecting criticism that authorities are slow to act.

Speaking on state television, Keravnos said Cyprus continues to have some of the lowest fuel prices in Europe because the government has already implemented anti‑inflation measures worth €100 million over the past three years.

He said he does not support imposing a price cap on fuel, calling it a risky policy.

Instead, officials are examining a possible reduction in the consumption tax on fuel.

Keravnos dismissed claims that the government is delaying action for political reasons, saying the administration has shown it responds responsibly during crises.
