The European Commission has confirmed the resignation of former Commissioner Johannes Hahn from his post as the EU’s special envoy for the Cyprus issue.
A Commission spokesperson said Hahn stepped down due to other professional commitments.
Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will decide “in due course” on next steps, including whether he will be replaced.
Hahn, an Austrian politician, was appointed in May to support efforts toward reunifying Cyprus, working alongside the U.N. secretary‑general’s special envoy and aiming to strengthen the EU’s role in a process traditionally led under U.N. auspices.
