Cyprus mounted a strong presence at the Oinorama 2026 international wine exhibition in Athens, highlighting the richness and modern character of the island’s vineyards.
The Cypriot delegation was organised by the Cyprus Trade Centre in Athens in cooperation with the ministry and featured 16 wineries presenting a wide range of wines.
The pavilion drew considerable interest from importers, industry professionals and visitors.
The exhibition, held from March 13 to 16 at the new “Onassis Ready” venue in Agios Ioannis Rentis, attracted importers, journalists and wine specialists from across Europe.
Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps also visited the Cyprus stand, hosted by Cyprus’ ambassador to Greece, Stavros Avgoustidis, and commercial counsellor Iosif Kyprios. Representatives from 25 countries attended.
Visitors sampled both traditional and contemporary Cypriot labels, including native red varieties such as Maratheftiko, Yiannoudi, Mavro and Ofthalmo, and white varieties including Xynisteri, Morokanella, Spourtiko and Promara. Commandaria, Cyprus’ protected‑designation sweet wine and one of the world’s oldest, held a central place in the presentation.
The ministry said the fair generated valuable contacts with importers and market representatives, creating prospects for new partnerships and boosting export opportunities.
Cyprus’ successful participation supports the government’s strategy to promote Cypriot wine abroad with an emphasis on quality, authenticity and indigenous varieties.
