Authorities have confirmed the first case of foot‑and‑mouth disease in a pig farm, detected at a facility in Palaiometocho housing about 4,000 animals.
Sotiria Georgiadou, a senior officer with the Veterinary Services, said investigators are examining how the virus reached the farm.
The Veterinary Services also reported seven additional livestock units testing positive for the virus. They include two goat‑and‑sheep units and one cattle unit in the Dromolaxia–Meneou area, three goat‑and‑sheep units in Geri, and one cattle unit and one goat‑and‑sheep unit in Athienou.
The total number of affected farms has now reached 92.
