The “Voice of Livestock Farmers” organization has said it is awaiting cabinet decisions on compensation levels for producers hit by the foot‑and‑mouth outbreak before determining its next steps.
Spokeswoman Stella Petrou told state radio that farmers will meet tonight to review developments and decide on future action.
She said affected producers remain dissatisfied with the compensation amounts previously announced.
Petrou criticized the process for setting compensation criteria, saying decisions were made without input from livestock farmers. “Agricultural organizations do not include livestock producers, and it is unacceptable for others to decide for us,” she said.
She added that it is now clear farmers will not meet with the president, who referred them to the relevant ministries instead.
