President Nikos Christodoulides announced two new European Commission strategies — one for Islands and one for resilient, prosperous and sustainable Coastal Areas — during a high‑level conference in Paphos.
He said the strategies provide, for the first time, a comprehensive framework to address the specific challenges and opportunities facing the EU’s island and coastal regions.
Christodoulides added that both align fully with Cyprus’ national agenda and government priorities.
The president expressed strong satisfaction with Cyprus’ EU Council presidency, saying it has delivered “tangible, measurable and substantive results” across all priority pillars.
He said Cyprus handled major geopolitical issues and demanding legislative files, including the EU’s new long‑term budget, competitiveness, enlargement matters and policies affecting daily life — education, health, labor rights and air passenger rights.
Christodoulides said he is proud of Cyprus and its people for what they achieved in just 181 days. He added that the presidency’s most significant legacy was giving real substance to the EU’s strategic autonomy.
