Cyprus police say they’ve received a rise in reports of phone‑scam calls appearing to come from Cypriot numbers.
According to investigators, the calls begin with a recorded message claiming to be from the “National Police Security Office,” alleging the recipient’s identity is linked to suspicious activity. Victims are then prompted to press a number, transferring them to a person posing as an official.
Police say the caller falsely claims bank accounts have been opened in the victim’s name at Cypriot institutions and used to move large sums of money — a pretext to extract payments or personal financial details.
Authorities are urging the public not to disclose personal or banking information and to hang up immediately.
