Cyprus will temporarily reactivate its previous digital‑television platform for three months, broadcasting it in parallel with the new system after widespread technical problems left many viewers without service.
The Department of Electronic Communications said the move will give the public more time to resolve issues such as retuning receivers, purchasing compatible decoders and making corrections to home installations.
The goal, the department said, is to ensure a smoother transition to the new digital‑television platform.
The Cyprus Pensioners Union (EKYSY) called on the government to provide financial support for retirees who have been forced to buy new equipment and pay for technical assistance. The group said many elderly people have been left without television access and reported complaints of overcharging and profiteering.
EKYSY said pensioners are not responsible for how the transition was implemented and urged authorities to investigate the reported abuses.
