Man held after “souvenir” bullets found in bag at Limassol courthouse

A 43-year-old man has been remanded in custody after 13 bullets were discovered in his bag during a routine security check at the entrance of Limassol District Court.

The man had gone to the courthouse to give a sworn statement when officers found the ammunition and detained him on the spot. Police are now investigating both his account of how he came by the bullets and their true origin.

According to police, the man told investigators he had gone for a swim at Dasoudi beach earlier that morning when he spotted a bag tucked under a large rock. He said he opened it and found the bullets inside, but was unsure whether they were real or fake, and assumed they might be souvenirs. He then put them in his pouch, he said, before heading to the courthouse.

He appeared before the court on Thursday and was ordered held for two days while the investigation continues.
