A total of 47 people were arrested yesterday as part of a joint operation by police and the Deputy Ministry of Immigration targeting illegal employment and undeclared work.
The nationwide operation, carried out yesterday afternoon by the Aliens and Immigration Service with officers from the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance’s Department of Labour Inspections, covered 16 catering establishments across the country.
Of the 47 people arrested for illegal employment, nine were also detained for illegally residing in the Republic.
Alongside the criminal proceedings, Labour Inspection Department officers issued administrative fines totalling €195,000 to 16 employers found to be using undeclared workers.
