Volt Limassol’s provincial committee has come out against the Cabinet’s decision to grant a permit for the “Limassol Mall,” a new shopping center planned within the municipal boundaries of Amathus despite the area’s Local Plan.
In a statement, the committee criticized what it described as a recurring practice of bypassing spatial‑planning rules whenever convenient, arguing that such decisions undermine efforts to protect residents’ quality of life.
The committee said Limassol does not need another mall approved through planning deviations at an already congested junction, but instead requires development that respects citizens.
The Municipality of Amathus has also warned that projects built without supporting infrastructure degrade living conditions, while other local groups say the mall will worsen traffic congestion.
