The minimum amount proposed for the fisheries sector under the European Union’s new budget has doubled to 4 billion euros, according to Fisheries and Oceans Commissioner Costas Kadis.
Speaking after a session of the House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Kadis said the European Commission’s proposal for the new budget restructures the EU budget and introduces a minimum amount to be allocated to the fisheries sector.
He noted that the proposal is now before the European Council and the European Parliament, and he expressed hope that an agreement would be reached soon so that the final figures become clear.
